Shield for Oregon, explained.
Does Shield work for Oregon residents? +
Yes, and Oregon is one of the best states for authorized-agent services. OCPA explicitly recognizes the right to designate an authorized agent to exercise opt-out rights. Shield submits opt-out requests to 500+ data brokers on your behalf, re-submits every 45 days, and uses OCPA's universal opt-out mandate (effective Jan 2026).

What makes Oregon's authorized-agent framework different? +
Oregon gives the fullest authorized-agent authority of any state except California. Texas added opt-out-signal agent recognition in Jan 2025 (narrower). Virginia has no explicit framework. Colorado requires UOOM acceptance but not formal agent appointments. Oregon lets you formally designate an agent to exercise opt-out rights on your behalf, and controllers must comply once they verify the agent's authority.
What does Shield cost for Oregon residents? +
Same pricing as every state: $4.99/month, $49/year (save 18%), or $99/year family plan covering up to 4 members. Cancel anytime with one click. Founding members get 50% off year one.
Can I get a list of third parties who received my data? +
Yes — this is OCPA's unique feature. Oregon requires controllers to disclose a list of specific third parties (not just categories) that received your personal data. This is more granular than Virginia, Texas, or Colorado, which only require category-level disclosure. Shield uses this right to build your personal disclosure map: which brokers have your data, who they sold it to, and who you need to request deletion from.
What happens if a business ignores my OCPA request in 2026? +
The 30-day cure period expired January 1, 2026. The Oregon AG can now bring enforcement actions directly without offering businesses a chance to fix violations first. Penalties reach $7,500 per violation, plus attorney's fees and investigation costs. In the first year of enforcement (2024-2025), the Oregon DOJ received 214 complaints and issued 38 cure letters — most concerning data brokers and deletion requests.
What happens to my Shield subscription if I move from Oregon? +
Shield automatically adjusts to your new state's legal framework. If you move to California, Texas, Virginia, Colorado, or any state where Shield operates, coverage continues seamlessly. Update your address in your dashboard — we handle the legal mechanics.
Does Oregon protect minors differently? +
Yes. As of January 1, 2026, Oregon prohibits selling personal data of consumers under 16 — the strongest minor protection in the country. Oregon also bans selling precise geolocation data for all consumers, regardless of age, effective the same date. If your household includes minors, Oregon's protections go further than any other state.
Can I cancel Shield anytime? +
Yes. One click. No retention call. No "are you sure?" dark pattern. The cancel button is on your dashboard. Your data stays deleted — we just stop re-submitting future deletion cycles.
